Healing Our Relationship With Money

September 30, 2023
by Chany Rosengarten - Wealth Coach

What did you tell yourself about money today?

Go ahead and think about it for a moment. How many times did money play into your thoughts today? What did you say to yourself? When you filled up your car with gas, bought your food, paid the bills, checked the bank account, what thoughts did you have? Were those thoughts expansive, feel-good thoughts? Or did they bring you down?

“I am so happy with my finances. I feel comfortable and deserving. I know what to do with my money, and money serves me and the people I love in having a good life.” Is that the message you walk around with?

Or are the messages you tell yourself: “How can I pay for this? There is never enough. How did the price of bread go up? Why do people take advantage of me? I must work harder. I am feeling so stressed!”

Our relationship with money is deeply intertwined with our personal experiences, beliefs and emotions. And those things that shape us make a huge difference in the internal dialogue we have about money. Each of us carries unique pains and limitations surrounding money, shaped by past encounters and conditioning. Is there enough or never enough? Is it fair or does dog eat dog? Recognizing our thought patterns and healing the ones that don’t serve us is of utmost importance, as it paves the way for financial empowerment, abundance and a sense of personal freedom. It is crucial to heal our relationship with money so that we can choose to have empowering beliefs around our finances and success.

Change your thoughts into supportive ones. Let your thoughts about money lift you up and bring you more wealth.

Overcoming limiting beliefs will set you free to go ahead and earn, keep and enjoy the wealth that is yours. We all have our own beliefs about money. These beliefs are so deeply rooted that we don’t think of them as beliefs, we see them as truths. "I will never be wealthy;" "Money is evil;" or "I am not deserving of financial success." Such self-imposed limitations started somewhere. We picked them up.

They are not the ultimate truth, but they are our current truth. In other words, they are a belief. A belief is a thought we picked up either through a painful experience or a message we got from our parents, family or society. Sometimes it’s just a mistake. We walk around with this thought as if it were etched in stone. Lurking there in the dark recesses of our brain, these negative thoughts can hinder our ability to pursue opportunities, take calculated risks or manifest financial abundance.

The good news is, these beliefs can be changed, and with them, your ability to enjoy wealth and abundance. By healing our relationship with money, we can identify and challenge these limiting beliefs, replacing them with empowering ones that support our financial growth and well-being.

The fact is that the world has enough money, time and love for you to have what you need. When we allow ourselves to change the way we think about money, we open up to a sense of abundance. We embrace the world as a place that has everything we need for our wellbeing. We let the abundance in.

When we hold a negative relationship with money, we often perceive it as scarce or limited. This scarcity mindset breeds feelings of anxiety, fear and constant worry about financial stability. By healing our relationship with money, we can shift our perspective towards one of abundance. Recognizing that money is a flow of energy that can be attracted and multiplied allows us to tap into the vast opportunities that surround us. This shift in mindset cultivates a sense of abundance, fostering confidence, gratitude and the ability to make choices from a place of abundance rather than scarcity.

What follows is our ability to create financial empowerment in our life. Healing our relationship with money empowers us to take charge of our financial well-being. By addressing our fears, insecurities and past traumas related to money, we regain control over our financial decisions and actions. You know you can do what it takes to make good money and so you do it. You can take good care of yourself and the people you love. You can take good care of your business.

This empowerment enables us to set realistic financial goals, develop effective budgeting and saving strategies, and make informed investment choices. Taking control of our finances instills a sense of self-reliance, security and peace of mind.

With a straighter back, you start taking action and making it a regular habit. In time, your money habits start to support you. You start looking at money as your ally, not your enemy. And you treat it well.

Unhealthy money habits, such as impulsive spending, excessive debt or financial neglect, can perpetuate a negative cycle and hinder our financial growth. Healing our relationship with money provides an opportunity to develop healthy money habits and behaviors. We can learn to budget effectively, save for the future and cultivate mindful spending practices. These habits not only promote financial stability but also contribute to a balanced and fulfilling life.

Rather than seeing money as this thing to squirrel and squander, you see money for what it is, an abundant energy that is here for your goals and visions. You get comfortable using it. You are less afraid and more confident. You use money and love people, instead of loving money and using people.

And this is how your money starts to align with your personal values.

When our relationship with money is raw and unhealed, we may find ourselves disconnected from our true values and priorities. We may pursue financial gains at the expense of our well-being, relationships or personal fulfillment. Our desperate need for financial security, reassurance or even financial chaos perpetuates a cycle of doing things for money, rather than money working for us.

By healing our relationship with money, we align our financial decisions with our core values and aspirations. Who are you? What do you want? What do you care about? How can money help you in that? How can your way of earning money align with your values? We can make conscious choices that support our overall well-being, pursue meaningful goals and create a sense of purpose beyond financial achievements. Money is the means. And you, who has healed the painful thoughts you once carried around money, are wealthy, worthy and whole.

Healing our relationship with money is an essential step towards personal growth, financial empowerment and overall well-being. By overcoming limiting beliefs, embracing abundance, cultivating financial empowerment, building healthy money habits and aligning money with our values, we unlock a world of possibilities and create a healthier, more balanced relationship with money. Remember, your financial journey is unique to you, and by embarking on the path of healing, you can transform your relationship with money and create a life of abundance, purpose and fulfillment.

For today, ask yourself these questions: What are my thoughts around money? Is that the ultimate truth? What would I like to believe instead?
